Science Experiment - Testing for Density of a liquid

We studied how oil and water have different densities and discovered that oil will always float on water because water is heavier than oil.  This means that water is more dense than oil.  Oil is Hydrophobic which means it will not mix with water.  We also looked at the damage to the environment and how oil slicks damage the seas.

Maths Week Activities

We love arts and crafts

CHRISTMAS TREAT

We worked so hard we got a treat of a Christmas Movie and Hot Chocolate in class today!!

Construction and Music

Today we were studying music from South America.  We loved the sounds of the Pan Flutes, so we decided to make our own. We worked collaboratively today to construct a set of Pan Flutes. We had to problem solve and work as a team.  We had great fun.

Creating Musical Instruments

Ronan is demonstrating the musical instrument he made using a piece of newly cut timber and some rubber bands.  He created some cool sounds.  We counted the rings on the the timber to see if we could find out how old the tree was before it was cut down.

Ag foghlaim conas cluichí cártaí a imirt as Gaeilge.

Today we learned how to play the card game 'Go Fish' as Gaeilge.  We had fun while we learned!

ATHLETICS - JAVELIN THROWING

We have had great fun learning how to throw the javelin with Ray from Cork Sports Partnership.

Ray has taught us the skills we need and we now have the confidence to show how it's done!

Creating with Clay

We enjoyed working with the clay. We used our imagination to think about what creatures live under the sea and tried to build up the clay to form an underwater scene.  We were surprised at how long it took for our clay designs to dry out completely so that they were ready for painting.

When the clay had fully dried and had changed colour from a dark grey to a paler grey, we were ready to paint them.  Each colour we used had to dry fully before we added another colour.

It is a work in progress!  Keep an eye out for our finished products.

Athletics Training

More Athletics Training with Ray.  We were working on our running skills. Now we are working on running relay races and how to pass the baton correctly.

Athletics Blitz Mallow May 2023

Today we were lucky to get the opportunity to put the skills we learned over the past few weeks with Ray to the test.  We travelled to Mallow G.A.A. Complex to compete with six other schools from the area for a Third and Fourth Class Athletics Blitz.  We had a brilliant day.
